Camera Use Week 2: Aperture

Week 2 Aperture

In Class Exercise

1. Photograph with 3 Elements

Shutter Speed 1/4000   Fstop 1.4   IOS 1600
Shutter Speed 1/3200   Fstop 1.4   IOS 1600
Shutter Speed 1/4000   Fstop 1.4   IOS 1600

I took these Images with a Narrow Depth of Field with an Fstop 1.4, which was the lowest aperture my camera would allow. I took these images with a 50mL lens and on a tripod to keep the camera still and straight. I focused the camera fully on what ever book I wanted sharp in the image, in this case. (Image 1) The Back Book, (Image 2) The Middle Book, and (Image 3) The Front Book. Once focused on the specific book I wanted sharp, if needed, I moved the camera over so all books were in frame and made sure all the background looked blurry through the camera before taking the photo to create this look.

2. Environmental Portrait

Shutter Speed 1/6   Fstop 22   IOS 1600

This is my Environmental Portrait Image, with everything in frame in focus. I took this image  with a wide depth of field and a larger Fstop of 22 to help keep everything in frame in focus. I took this image on a tripod and asked Rabia to sit rather than stand for the image. Even though this image was taken using a  tripod, Rabia came out a little blurry which I didn't realize till I had uploaded the images to the computer. I think this was due to my camera shaking a tiny bit on the tripod when the image was taken.

3. Close Up Portraits with a Narrow and Wide Depth of Field

Shutter Speed 1/8   Fstop 22   IOS 1600
Shutter Speed 1/1600   Fstop 1.4   IOS 1600

Both the Top and Bottom Images I took using a tripod. The Top Image I took with a wide depth of field and a larger Fstop Number of 22 to keep everything in frame in focus, and The Bottom Image I took with a narrow depth of field and a smaller Fstop Number of 1.4 to keep Rabia in focus and everything behind her blurry and out of focus. When looking at both images I can see a massive difference between both images especially in the background.

4. Close and Far Away Portraits

Shutter Speed 1/2000   Fstop 1.4   IOS 1600
Shutter Speed 1/3200   Fstop 1.4   IOS 1600

I took these images on a tripod and with a lower Fstop of 1.4. I asked Rabia to stand close to the camera and then take 10 steps back. I'm not entirely sure if the bottom image is correct? I still think the bottom image looks quite cool though with the blur leading to sharp at the end.

Aperture Week 2

Self Directed Task

1. Landscape Images

Shutter Speed 1/1000   Fstop 5.6   IOS 100
Shutter Speed 1/500   Fstop 5.6   IOS 100

These are some of my landscape images I took while out with friends over the weekend :)
I took both with a wide depth of field and everything in shot sharp and focused. These were both taken with an Fstop of 5.6 and I took both hand held.

2. Image with a Narrow and a Wide Depth of Field.

Shutter Speed 1/200   Fstop 5.6   IOS 100
Shutter Speed 1/250   Fstop 5.6   IOS 100

These images aren't exactly the same because  when I was taking the image my friend didn't realize I had to take a second one and walked away, She did pose the same way though which was good. I took these hand held with a Fstop on both, which I didn't realize at the time of 5.6, BUT I got the narrow depth of field with the top by zooming in with the lens and focusing  fully on Jahnara and making sure before I took the photo that everything surrounding looked blurry through the camera. I got the wide depth of field with the second by zooming out with my lens and making sure everything look focused before taking the image. In reality I should have also had the top image with a Smaller Fstop to help make the image more of a narrower depth of field and the bottom with a Higher Fstop.

Week 2
ISO Self Directed Test

1. Day Time ISO

Shutter Speed 1/400   Fstop 5.6   ISO 100
Shutter Speed 1/4000   Fstop 5.6   ISO 6400

I took these at around 12pm just outside of our house of my Dads Bonsai Tree's. I did the ISO Test quite a few times just to make sure the pictures came out the same each time. I noticed more so with the day times ones than the night, that as the ISO got higher the images got more over exposed, as you can see from the top two images. I also noticed the Image getting more grainy the Higher the ISO,

2. Night Time ISO

Shutter Speed "30   Fstop 5.6   ISO 100
Shutter Speed 0"6   Fstop 5.6   ISO 6400

For the night time ISO Test I had to change where I took the images as It started pouring with rain, so took these on the other side of the house. Tried to make it look similar though. I found the ISO's at night didn't over expose like the day time ones. The lighting in the images didn't gradually get brighter like it did during the day, different ISO's had different lighting. Possibly also to do with the lighting outside. The ISO's at night also had a lot longer exposure time as the ISO's went up in number. Also probably to do the Shutter Speeds changing as the ISO's changed.

3. Best ISO for Me

Shutter Speed 1/4000   Fstop 5.6   ISO 1600

I really liked using the ISO of 1600 while taking my images. I felt the images came out looking the best while using this ISO in both the Night and Day Images. The Lighting in both came out really well and the image to me just looked over all better  :)
