Gallery Task: No Free Man Gus Fisher Gallery Week 6

No Free Man
Gus Fisher Gallery

1. What was your initial Reaction to the Show?

My first initial reaction to the show even before I walked in, just knowing what the show was about was sadness, I'm quite a sensitive person to stuff like that and I could just feel the emotion. When I saw the Images inside and looked into their eyes you could just feel the the pain, one particular image I couldn't look at for very long cause it just made me want to cry. I think the Photographer did an amazing job with just being able to portray that kinda of emotion not all photographers can do that. The Images we're very emotional and true.

2. What were your thoughts after hearing more about the Project/Show?

Hearing about the Images and why they were taken gave a deeper perspective into the images and the stories of the people within them and it made me feel more connected towards the people in the images as well, and a bigger emotional connecting towards the whole exhibition as a whole.

3. How does the print size affect your viewing of the Photographs?

I think the size they have their prints has a massive effect on the emotional response towards the images. If they we're smaller prints I don't think they would have been able to achieve the emotion as well as they have.

4. Choose one Image. How would you describe this Image?

Teina Pora

I choose these Images of Teina Pora to write about as a felt a deep connection towards them. The image on the far left is one of the images in the exhibition that almost made me cry. I could just feel the sadness he must have been going through being put in jail for 20yrs for a crime he didn't commite, you can just see it in his eyes, and really feel the unfairness of the whole situation.

The lighting in this Image, to be honest I'm not to sure how to write about cause the whole image to me looks quite normal with the lighting BUT I'm guessing there is lighting coming from the left side? as the rights side of his face especially in the far right image looks darker than the other, and probably lighting in the background to make the back wall brighter as well.
The Vantage point in which these Images were taken I think is more straight on as you can't see to much under his chin which to me would indicate a lower  vantage point or to much above his head which would indicate higher.
The Photographer has positioned Teina more so he's center of the frame.
I think this image is taken with a more slower shutter speed, as it looks like he's come out of the image more and theres a shaper edge around him.
The colour choice for these Images is very nutural which I think suits the theme of the show and give of more emotion.
