What do you See?? (Technical and Compositional Techniques)

These images I have to admit I found a little hard to tell how they were taken and what techniques were used. I'm guessing it was probably taken with a flash possibly bounced of a wall?? It's eye seems to be lit up which to me aims towards a flash and the horse seems to be very smoothly lit with a white glow which could aim towards the flash being pointed at a wall and bounced back onto the horse?? I also noticed the black background which while I was at the gallery, I was trying to figure out how that was done, but I noticed in the catalogue it says that she used a "day for night" technique. The image is also taken from a Middle Vantage point and shot with a more close frame.

What is the work About??

All of Greta's work being exhibited at the Two Rooms Gallery is shown with all her subjects surrounded by darkness in a way, which to me when I was there without reading the context. I kinda thought it showed maybe that her subjects are surrounded by darkness and even though all her subject matter can be or is dangerous there's also kind of beauty in it with the subject matter as well swans are seen as beautiful, and so are horses and flowers. If you don't think about the dangerous part of it that's kinda what I saw and thought possibly the work was about.
After reading the context I realized the work was more about how Greta herself see's things. In the catalogue she explained how she took the images almost like she was stalking the animals or subject she was taking the images of and taking images of things she's afraid of because they're all dangerous in their own way. which you can definately see when looking at the images after reading the context.

How does the presentation affect the way you view this work??

All of Greta's images in the gallery had black frames around them which I thought looked really good and different cause I don't think many people would think or consider to put black on black the way she did which I though was really creative and different, definately something I noticed and picked up on.  The way she had the whole image black and then to see this black shinny horse in the middle of the image just made the whole image really dramatic and just kinda drew your attention to the image.
